WOMAN, 85, CHARGED WITH RUNNING A SCALPING RING FOR SENIOR-CENTER LUNCH TICKETS

WOMAN, 85, CHARGED WITH RUNNING A SCALPING RING FOR SENIOR-CENTER LUNCH TICKETS BRIARWOOD, OH — Frances Kettleman, 85, was charged after investigators uncovered a scalping operation in which she bought up subsidized senior-center lunch tickets in bulk and resold them to other residents at a steep markup. tickets normally sold for $2 through the front desk with a strict one-per-person limit Kettleman allegedly recruited two other residents to purchase tickets under their own names for her resale price reportedly climbed to $6 on popular meatloaf days and $8 on the annual holiday meal a small notebook found in her room tracked buyers, dates, and markups in neat columns staff say she had accumulated over $400 in resale profit before the scheme was uncovered Fellow residents say Kettleman's operation was something of an open secret, with several admitting they paid the markup rather than risk missing out on the popular Friday fish fry. "We've dealt with people cutting the line, people hoarding extra napkins," said center director Owen Pratt, 8 years with the facility. "We've never had an actual resale market for lunch tickets with a documented markup schedule." Kettleman was charged with unauthorized resale of subsidized services and ordered to repay the collected profits in full to the center's meal program fund. She reportedly asked if she could keep her notebook as a record of "market research," and requested one final ticket for the upcoming holiday meal before her privileges were suspended. Some people hustle young. Frances started at 85, and business was reportedly very good.
