The man told investigators the profile had matched with him on a popular app and carried on increasingly personal conversations for weeks, discussing his relationship history and current feelings in detail. He said he only grew suspicious when the profile referenced private information no stranger could have known, and eventually confronted the account directly. Police say Lindqvist had run the operation with meticulous planning, and recovered the following items from her devices: A second phone used exclusively to operate the fake dating profile A folder of borrowed photos downloaded from an unrelated influencer's page A saved conversation log spanning three months, organized by topic A note reading "SEE IF HE'S STILL LOYAL BEFORE TELLING HIM" A screenshot of his messages, annotated with her own reactions in red "I've investigated online impersonation cases for sixteen years and seen plenty of catfishing schemes," said Detective Colin Marsh. "I've never had someone catfish her own ex-boyfriend for three straight months just to test him." The dating app declined to comment on the account, though it has since been permanently removed from the platform. She wanted proof of his loyalty.
