FLORIDA MAN ARRESTED AFTER ALLEGEDLY TRYING TO BUY A USED BOAT WITH 4,000 SCRATCH-OFFS AND A SLIGHTLY USED RIDING MOWER PUNTA GORDA, FL — Authorities arrested Tucker Wade Pomerleau, 44, on Friday afternoon after he allegedly walked into Suncoast Marine on Tamiami Trail and attempted to purchase a $18,400 used 2017 Bayliner with 4,000 unscratched lottery scratch-offs, a 2019 John Deere riding mower, and a Subway Footlong he insisted was "part of the deal." Witnesses say Pomerleau, wearing a sleeveless Tampa Bay Rays jersey, cargo shorts, and one Sperry, pulled into the lot towing the mower on a homemade trailer made from a futon frame and three ratchet straps. According to the police report: - Pomerleau presented the scratch-offs in 17 grocery bags, telling salesman Cody Pritchett "these ain't been scratched yet, so technically I could be a millionaire by Tuesday, you're getting in on the ground floor" - The mower, a green John Deere E120, was reportedly "slightly used" in that it was missing a steering wheel and one rear tire - Pomerleau allegedly offered a final sweetener of "47 unopened packs of beef jerky, two cases of Mountain Dew Code Red, and my cousin Daryl's labor for one weekend" - A bystander on the lot, identified only as Dale from Englewood, recorded the entire negotiation while saying "this man brought a yard sale to a boat dealership, somebody call the news" - Officers recovered the scratch-offs, the mower, the half-eaten Subway sandwich, and a handwritten contract titled "GENTLEMAN'S AGREEMENT, BOAT FOR DREAMS" Sergeant Buford Henley, a 28-year veteran of the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, addressed reporters at the scene. "In twenty-eight years patrolling this coast I have seen folks try to barter with chickens, with kayaks, and one time with a tattoo gun. This is the first time I have impounded a futon frame as part of a boat negotiation. I am going home." He came in with a sandwich, a mower, and the heart of a future millionaire. He left in cuffs with the boat still parked and the scratch-offs booked into evidence.
