MAN ARRESTED AFTER PULLING THE FIRE ALARM TO STOP A COWORKER FROM MICROWAVING FISH AT 8 A.M. TAMPA, FL — Office workers expecting a routine Monday instead found themselves standing in the parking lot after police say 31-year-old Brandon Ellis pulled the building's fire alarm moments before a coworker heated up leftover tilapia in the break room microwave. According to investigators, Ellis claimed he had "no other choice" after smelling the coworker's lunch being unpacked from nearly 40 feet away. Witnesses said Brandon repeatedly begged his coworker to reconsider, even offering to buy breakfast sandwiches for the entire office if the fish stayed in the refrigerator. When negotiations failed, he allegedly shouted, "I'm saving this workplace!" before yanking the alarm. More than 200 employees evacuated while firefighters searched the building, only to discover the only thing creating concern was an aggressively seasoned piece of fish waiting beside the microwave. Police arrested Ellis on charges related to making a false emergency report. Several coworkers later admitted they were "annoyed he broke the law... but also grateful they didn't have to smell fish before coffee."
