Authorities say the ceramic gnome, affectionately known as "Gerald," disappeared from a front yard before a handwritten ransom note appeared in the mailbox. The note reportedly read: "Gerald is safe. Bring pie. No store-bought crust." Investigators say neighbors initially believed children were responsible until security footage showed the suspect calmly walking away with the gnome tucked inside a reusable grocery bag. Officers later found Gerald sitting comfortably in a rocking chair on the woman's enclosed porch wearing a tiny knitted scarf.
