DAYTON, OH — Local resident Gary Whitman, 58, was jailed Thursday after rigging a grid of motion-sensor sprinklers across his front yard specifically to soak neighborhood kids who kept cutting through to reach the bus stop. Whitman installed eight sensors aimed at the worn dirt path the kids had carved across his grass He timed the system to activate hardest "between 3 and 4," calling it "scheduled hydration" Neighbors say he posted a sign reading "THE LAWN REMEMBERS" near the sidewalk He logged each triggering in a notebook labeled "trespass deterrence, day by day" When confronted, he insisted the kids "could simply use the sidewalk like civilized people" A parent down the street told reporters the neighborhood group chat split instantly, half furious and half admitting the shortcut had always annoyed them too.
