MAN CITED AFTER FILLING A DISPLAY KAYAK WITH WATER INSIDE COSTCO TO CHECK IT FOR LEAKS DENTON, TX — Donnie Waxler, 41, was cited after making four separate trips to the store restroom with a bucket to fill a display kayak with water directly in the sporting goods aisle, testing it for leaks before deciding whether to buy it. Waxler reportedly used a plain white bucket, refilling it in the restroom sink each trip water ultimately spread across roughly 30 feet of aisle before an employee intervened wet floor cones had to be set up along the entire length of the affected walkway Waxler allegedly monitored the kayak's interior closely between fills, checking for seepage along the seams he told deputies the hull had passed the test and he "fully intended to buy it" regardless of the mess Employees say the aisle became a minor hazard zone by the third trip, with several shoppers carefully stepping around the puddled water while Waxler continued checking the hull. "We've had people test recliners, test mattresses right there in the aisle," said store operations manager Renata Boyle, 9 years with the location. "We've never had someone conduct an actual water test on a boat inside the building." Waxler was cited for creating a slip hazard and required to pay for the cleanup.
