WOMAN KICKED OFF FLIGHT AFTER HOSTING A MID-FLIGHT WINE TASTING WITH HER OWN BOTTLES Denise Marlow paid for one economy seat and decided it came with permission to open a wine bar across three rows. The Sacramento, California, traveler waited until cruising altitude, pulled bottles from her airport shopping bag and began arranging plastic cups on her tray table. A neighboring passenger thought she was handing out water until Denise asked him to describe the finish. He said, "I was trying to finish my nap." Denise had already written tasting notes on cocktail napkins. The first wine was "bold but approachable." The second apparently paired well with the cheese crackers she'd borrowed from someone in 18C. When a flight attendant told her to stop pouring, Denise smiled and held up an empty cup. "I brought enough for everyone." That included the crew, whom she offered a discount on her next tasting night. Nobody had asked to attend the current one. After the bottles were put away, Denise attempted to continue with a "dry tasting," instructing passengers to smell their empty cups while she explained the grapes. Then she started collecting $12 participation fees. One man said he'd only taken a cup because she'd blocked his movie screen. Denise offered him store credit. By the time the plane landed, the people around her had spent forty minutes hearing that the airline was "threatened by small business." She was escorted off before the other passengers and lost her seat on the connecting flight. At the gate, Denise demanded a refund because her travel experience had been ruined.
