MAN, 81, ARRESTED AFTER COMMANDEERING A TOUR BUS AT A REST STOP TO FINISH THE ROUTE HIMSELF BRANDYWINE, PA — Harold Pruitt, 81, was arrested after climbing into the driver's seat of a chartered tour bus during a rest stop break and driving it 17 miles to complete two more scheduled stops before deputies caught up with the vehicle. Pruitt reportedly boarded while the actual driver was inside the rest stop using the restroom he narrated the remainder of the historic mill tour over the PA system using the printed itinerary taped to the dashboard passengers say his commentary included several facts not on the official script, including a detailed aside about his own wedding in 1968 Pruitt allegedly signaled turns correctly and used his blinker at every stop itinerary found on the dash showed he had completed the covered bridge and the old chapel exactly on schedule Several passengers told deputies they assumed Pruitt was a relief driver and said they genuinely preferred his version of the tour, with one calling it "more personal than the actual guide." "We've had people wander onto buses by mistake," said Transit Authority supervisor Glenn Aldous, 14 years with the agency. "We've never had someone finish two stops on schedule before we even knew the bus was missing." Pruitt was arrested for unauthorized operation of a commercial vehicle and released pending a hearing, with the transit authority confirming no damage occurred to the bus or any stop.
