MOM ARRESTED AFTER HOSTING AN UNINVITED OPEN HOUSE AT A STRANGER'S HOME Monica Salazar walked into an open house as a visitor and was negotiating the sale of the refrigerator eleven minutes later. The Tempe, Arizona, mom had enjoyed several brunch cocktails before spotting the sign. While the agent stepped outside to answer a call, Monica welcomed another couple and began a tour. She knew nothing about the property. This did not slow her down. The spare bedroom became a nursery. The laundry cupboard became a "compact wellness space." Asked about the roof, she looked up and confirmed there was one. By the time the agent returned, Monica was telling visitors the sellers would consider throwing in the patio furniture if everyone could be normal about it. The agent introduced herself. Monica said they should avoid confusing buyers with competing voices. Then she opened the refrigerator, helped herself to sparkling water and announced that refreshments were included in the viewing experience. The homeowners, watching the increasingly strange visit through their doorbell feed, asked for everyone to leave. Monica took that as a negotiating tactic and told the couple she could probably get the price down. After repeatedly refusing to exit the house, she was arrested. The agent spent the afternoon explaining that the wellness space contained a mop and that Monica did not represent anyone involved. The couple still submitted an offer. Monica found out and immediately asked about her commission. Her husband told her she'd receive it in the same currency as her real-estate qualifications. "So, experience?" "Exactly."
