MAN SAYS INTERVIEWER REJECTED HIM OVER HIS MAGA HAT: “I ONLY WORE IT OUTSIDE”

MAN SAYS INTERVIEWER REJECTED HIM OVER HIS MAGA HAT: “I ONLY WORE IT OUTSIDE” KNOXVILLE, TENNESSEE — Evan Ridley, 53, left a job interview convinced that a red MAGA hat had cost him the position. He told friends the interviewer had judged him before asking about his experience. His main evidence was that he had worn the hat on the walk to the office. Evan insisted he removed it before entering the building. He repeated that point several times while describing the meeting. The enormous portrait tattoo of Donald Trump across his cheek, temple, and neck remained visible throughout the interview, but Evan did not think that detail mattered. The company gave no public reason for its decision. Evan nevertheless recorded a long complaint about a hat the interviewer may never have seen. When someone asked whether he thought the face tattoo might have been noticed, he replied that people should focus on qualifications. That is a fair principle. It is also a difficult argument to make while insisting the invisible hat was the only thing anyone could have judged.
